What Is the Accounting Society?


The Accounting Society is the recruiting and preparatory organization for BYU’s School of Accountancy. We serve as the umbrella organization for all accounting-related clubs, including Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA), and Women of the School of Accountancy (WSOA).

Our role is to help students explore accounting, prepare for the School of Accountancy, and find the right academic and professional path within business.

By getting involved early, students are better prepared for the School of Accountancy, more competitive for internships, and more confident in their career decisions. The Accounting Society exists to make sure students don’t have to navigate the accounting program alone.

Who We Serve

We primarily serve underclassmen who are exploring or preparing to apply to the School of Accountancy. Most of our members are taking prerequisite courses such as ACC 200, ACC 310, FIN 201, MKTG 201, IS 110, and IS 201, and are deciding whether accounting is the right fit for them.

We also support current SOA students who want to mentor younger students, build leadership experience, and stay connected to the broader accounting community.

Everything You Need to Know

  • The Accounting Society helps students succeed academically and professionally through events, mentoring, and career preparation. Each semester we host networking events, firm visits, case competitions, and career-prep sessions. We also help students understand the accounting program, application timelines, and the career paths available with an accounting background.

  • The Accounting Society’s Career Prep team is dedicated to helping students become competitive candidates for internships and future full-time roles. Throughout the semester, the team hosts office hours and workshops where students can get help with resumes, recruiting strategy, interview preparation, and finding internship and job opportunities.

    We also hold several career-focused events each semester, including networking nights, recruiting workshops, and firm information sessions. Food is typically provided at these events to make it easy for students to attend and participate.

    Career Prep Resources

  • Each year we run several key programs to help students explore accounting and prepare for their careers:

    • Accounting Society Boot Camp in the fall, which introduces students to different accounting and business career paths
    • A case competition that gives underclassmen hands-on experience solving real business problems
    • Career prep workshops and networking events with firms and professionals
    • Social events and club nights that help students connect with peers and faculty

  • The Accounting Society acts as a gateway to more specialized accounting and business clubs. We help students discover and connect with organizations like Beta Alpha Psi, ACFE, IMA, WSOA, and even clubs outside of accounting such as the Finance Society, depending on their interests and career goals.

    Our goal is to help every student find the best fit for their goals while building a strong foundation in accounting.

  • We help students who are exploring or applying to the accounting major by connecting them with current SOA students, promoting accounting-related events, providing mentoring opportunities, and sharing information about the accounting program timeline, application process, and career paths.

  • We help current SOA students build professional skills, mentor younger students, stay connected to the accounting community, and continue exploring potential career paths through events, leadership opportunities, and professional development sessions.
